Meet and Greet Update

I've been meaning to update everybody on our agency's Meet and Greet last week. All in all, it was a pretty good day. It was good to put faces with names, and although a lot of the information was "old news", it's still nice to hear it repeated. I know a lot of people are really unhappy with their agencies right now, but I couldn't be happier with mine. I think the people who got the most out of it were people in the very early paperchasing stages, since I seemed to be the only one almost there (update #2: we will definitely be DTC by the end of September!!!!!). I was lucky enough to have a family member go with me, and I think it gave her a pretty good idea of just how much work goes into this whole process. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: any crack addict can punch out a couple of kids, but A-parents are the bomb. The hoops we have to jump through all but assure we're competent adults (or, at least, we were at the time of our homestudy. This, of course, is subject to change at any time during the wait).

Long story short, we had a good time. I wish the DH could have gone, but I actually think it was better to bring along someone not knee-deep in the process. This way, I have a kind of good-will ambassador to help field questions at family gatherings. We started this with the specific intent to keep friends and family as much in the loop as possible, especially since our families are pretty spread out. I firmly believe that it's important to impart as much information as we can (even if it seems like we're force-feeding it sometimes), so that we can limit the questions later down the road (like, when we get our daughter home and I'm just too exhausted to speak). We are also VERY fortunate to have the support network that we do, not only in our own families and friends, but also within our agency.

As always, we're eager to share any and everything we know (because we're so damn excited we're about to jump out of our skins), so if you have any questions or thoughts, shoot me an email or leave it in the comments.
