What's the price tag on a DTC dossier?

I know that costs are a big question for families that are considering Chinese adoption and it's a tough subject to talk about because - let's face it, no one likes to talk about the financial side of adoption. Sure, the agencies are very helpful in providing information on US Income Tax Credits (after the adoption is finalized), but generally provide only rough estimates on fees/costs.

The DSW and I have been very meticulous in tracking the adoption expenses (mainly for the aforementioned tax credit), so I think I've got a pretty good number on the sticker price for a DTC dossier.

$10,220.35

Yep, 10K+ for paperwork, authentications, translations, and agency fees.

The good news for us is that the USA expenses (roughly half) are behind us. We will still be required to give a $3,000 donation to the adoption home in China, pay our travel expenses, and legal expenses to re-adopt once we're back in the USA. Our estimate for the remaining costs are about another $10K, depending on travel costs.

Hopefully this will be a resource for other families that are considering Chinese adoption, but let me close with this - it's only money. I'm not trying to be cute or funny. It really is just pretty ink on paper. That may not make sense to some people right now, but I bet it will the moment you hold that little girl.

That's about as expensive as our IVF cycle/FET. A little bit more actually, and yet, not as expensive as I thought it was.

Isn't being infertile insanely expensive?

That's just for the paperwork part. We will still owe another $13-$15K in about a year.

Yeah, all told we're probably in for a good $25K+ for a completed Chinese adoption.

Like they aren't expensive enough during their life?
